PRISONS
Prisons are considered by most citizens to be a benefit that helps to keep them safe. Yet, those
who violate laws do not suffer ill effects. They are clothed, housed, fed, and provided with medical
care.
The growth of the prison population is confirmation that prison is not a deterrent that prevents
crime.
Prison and jail are not places most people wish to be because of the lack of freedom, rape, and
physical harm initiated by other inmates. The offenses that occur in prisons and jails are a blight
not only on the inmates who commit crimes; the offenses are also a blight that confirms prison
authorities’ inability to control and manage the inmates placed in their care.
Exile is an alternative that lessens the burdens on civil society, and a real deterrent to crime
because of the lack of social benefits.
